Implant Supported Dentures

Implant supported dentures are a full overture that is secured in place, instead of relying on the resting suction provided by traditional dentures. This type of restoration comes with a higher price tag, but the benefits mitigate any cost difference.

Complete dentures are available in several forms depending on the individual needs of patients. Many times traditional dentures provide an excellent solution for patients.  For others, options such as implant supported dentures can provide a more permanent dental solution.

Many people complain that conventional dentures never fully feel or fit like natural teeth. Their lack of stability, as well as discomfort are listed among the primary reasons for patient unhappiness.

Advantages

Implant supported dentures behave and function like natural teeth, which provide them many advantages over traditional dentures. Patients report both increased comfort and confidence over traditional dentures. Other advantages include:
  • No sticky and messy adhesives
  • Alleviate discomfort and pressure on gums
  • Increased bite force to eat your favorite foods
  • Prevent Bone Degeneration
  • Leave-in at night like natural teeth (for fixed implant supported dentures)
  • Can be brush and cleaned
  • Lower maintenance costs (no reline or adhesives)
  • Better sense of taste due to palate being uncovered
  • Improved speaking ability

These advantages make patients healthier, happier and cause them to sometimes forget they don’t have natural teeth.

Types

Fixed Denture

This type of denture is attached to titanium implant posts. It is typically supported by five or more implants to give the restoration strength. It offers advanced stability and functionality, while maintaining the bone and gum tissues of the mouth.
The main disadvantage of this implant supported denture is difficulty in cleaning, which requires a maintenance appointment once a year. It is not removable; therefore portions of the restoration can be tough to access while maintaining proper oral hygiene. The result of poor prosthesis maintenance is bad breath, tissue inflammation and in advanced cases implant failure.

Removable Denture

This denture makes use of the LOCATOR abutment; providing the maximum amount of stability and function available in a removable prosthetic. The procedure is only minimally invasive, and does not require the bone density of other implant procedures. The attachment on the denture simply snaps into the implant heads using a male to female connector. This allows patients to remove the denture for hygiene purposes as well as at night while they sleep.

Patients typically experience limited soreness, and a quick recovery time. Many patients report being able to eat a light meal the night of treatment, and some even choose to return to work the following day.

All-on-Four Implant

The All-on-Four dental implant technique has improved the way that implants can be used to treat tooth loss. They provide patients a new set of permanent teeth that only require four implants, and are incredibly secure and stable.

The All-on-Four technique of implants restores missing teeth by installing a full bridge that is secured by just four implants. The treatment stabilizes the jawbone and upper arch with long implants that maximize use of bone density. The increased stability provided by angulated rear implants many times eliminates the need for bone grafting.

Supported by strong clinical studies, All-on-Four implant supported dentures have over a decade of producing great results for dental patients. They are a long-term solution, which have the potential to last decades if not a lifetime.
